take your knife. confront the duck.

tonight i watched julie and julia. when this was out in theatres, i had no interest in it.  like i said, i like movies about love, heartache, redemption, romance. also zombies, wizards, and magic.  but not old ladies who introduce americans to french cooking.

so why did i like this? meryl streep. she is so good and her performance was just so kickass.  i knew nothing about julia child apart from the SNL sketches with her cutting off her fingers.  she didn't begin cooking until she was 40 and then she totally owned it.  she had the coolest relationship with her husband and he supported her and didn't neg her or treat her like her dreams were impossible. she took disappoint and failure and kept going.  i think i found a new, unexpected, totally fantastic role model.

the corresponding story is amy adams, cooking a meal a day from julia's cookbook.  that story is also great but the real juice is with julia.  there's this scene where she finally gets a book deal and she celebrates on the porch of her cambridge, ma house.  the joy felt so real.  i want to do something that makes me feel like that.  i'm 29. i know it's not too late, because it's never too late.  and i'll find it and celebrate on my porch and have it all.
