tonight.

see you tonight.

And I know you're oh so sorry
I truly believed that you're a better man
Than to share one kiss and then give away
From the love you come home everyday
Your hopes, your dreams, your everything

And what is love?
What is love?
See, I don't know anymore
I used to look
Up to
That love

if you want to view paradise, simply look around.

so last night i saw the att&t commercial featuring 'pure imagination' from the original willy wonka.  which is one of my most favorite movies of all time.  i love the commercial, the simple cute animation (whoa, so many robots!) and the pretty song.  today, i re-watched the commercial and found that many people are saying it's a rip-off of this video called spare time by artist edmond hawkins.  i watched both, several times, and i don't think it's so much of a rip-off... do you? they are similar, for sure.  but we're all inspired by something... i'm inspired by a million different tiny things... hmm. i've posted both below. have a look.

yipes. tough call.  they're both super cool though.
have a really awesome day.

if you do this for me, i'll buy you a hundred george michael's!

on chilly, rainy days like today my favorite thing to do is put on my jams, make peppermint hot chocolate and get on the couch with one or both of my favorite all time shows:

arrested development

and freaks and geeks.

anyone who knows me even a little bit knows that i can recite nearly every line from every episode of arrested development.  someone asked me who my favorite character from ad is... it's a total toss-up between tobias and gob.

(analrapist/leather daddy/never-nude)
i also have the most ginormous crush on jason batemen.  he's so cute.  except not when he's a creepy weird-o ass in juno.

like too many amazing shows, arrested development aired on fox for only 3 seasons... we've been hearing about a movie version forever but who knows if that will happen... arrested development won 6 emmys and was nominated at least 20 times.

arrested development also got some pretty awesome guest stars over the few short years:
jane lynch (my favorite), charlize theron, scott baio, liza, judy greer, julia louis-dreyfus, heather graham, christine taylor...and ron howard narrated the series and appeared in the series finale, 'development arrested.'

freaks and geeks is a judd apatow produced comedy-drama.  even more of a bummer than ad - freaks and geeks completed 18 episodes but was canceled after only 12 aired.   fans flooded nbc, requesting to see the final 6 episodes - which they finally did show in 2000.  both arrested development and freaks and geeks were on TIME magazine's top 100 shows of all-TIME.

it's easy to see that judd apatow was involved with this show - his movies have starred seth rogen, james franco and jason segel - all characters in freaks and geeks. the show takes place in michigan in 1980-81.  it's so great.  please watch it if you like things that are awesome.

yeah, that's one weird sounding bazooka.

this weekend i got to do two of my favorite weekend things: brunch and movies!
first up - for brunch i ate a yummy plate of green eggs and ham... which was scrambled eggs with cilantro and avacado and yummy grilled-up ham slices. mmm.

then... onto the movies for giant cherry cokes and junior mints.  and this super awesome movie:

kick-ass! it was so good. so fun.  see it!  since i've never really been into comics, i wasn't familiar with kick-ass before yesterday.  but i'm 100% a fan now - i loved how it didn't take itself seriously and was mocking the superhero films we've all seen a million times.  plus nic cage, clark duke and mclovin' - all elements of perfection!

on the way to post-movie drinks my friend chris asked us what super-hero power we would choose...  welp, i'm not sure, but i would definitely wear a neon wig.  i think i found this year's halloween costume ;)
go see it. don't bring little kids.

girl crush friday, sophie's choice: mary-kate olsen

how does one choose which olsen to prefer?  the answer is, it's not really a choice.   i've always just liked mary-kate better.  she always seems more unkempt than ashley, i absolutely loved her shade of red hair and general 'who cares' attitude.  i'd like to be a little more mary-kate in my life.

there's that red-ish hair that i lovelovelove!

doctor worm.

when i was a scraggly little 14 year old girl, my friend courtney made me a mix tape.  it was at the pivotal time when i was realizing how great and important music is... anyways - among james taylor, phish and eric clapton (miss courtney was and still is, crunchier than me!) there was a little band called: they might be giants.  i'm not even sure anymore what song it was - but it launched my love for the band.

fast forward to... today! it's earth day and for that very reason, there is a free concert on one of the parks that happens to be right outside of my work.  who's playing?  they might be giants! and citizen cope.  so happy earth day to you, to the earth, to they might be giants. iloveyou.

here's birdhouse in your soul - it's perfect!

this bell will ring when from nothing something comes.

rob ryan is an artist who specializes in paper-cutting and screenprinting.  i love him! his work is detailed and so pretty to look at - but he also speaks right to the sentimental lover of love side of me! about a year ago i bought ryan's first book: this is for you.

it's a bit of a fairy tale about love, and the sometimes lonely search for it.  as someone going through a bit of an ache-y heart, i felt lucky to have this pretty book at my bedside.  yesterday i bought a print for my wall... this is what it looks like (mine's blue!):

here's a few more of ryan's creations - i hope you search out more... or buy one from his etsy store!

I have 7 reasons for loving Montana and Cactus Records is #4

this past saturday (april 17th) was record store day... a day to support your local, independent record stores.  most hosted live bands, prizes, sweet deals and all-around good vibes.  people lined up hours in advance to make sure to take part... my fantastic brother was first in line outside his favorite brooklyn record store to pick up a pavement record - he made friends for the 2 hours he waited - and deemed himself "king of the nerds." that's a title i covet!  my friend katie worked her ass off for months to prepare the ma and nh stores for the day.  this is katie's photo at bull moose with circa survive performing in-store. awesome!

the record store website is full of lots of goodies - my favorite part is the artist quote section -  i wish i could post them all for you - here's a sample, but head over and read them all!

 Andrew W.K.:

"I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, which had no shortage of amazing record stores. The hours I spent wandering about one in particular -Encore Records - was all time well spent. Speaking with clerks and customers, being introduced to music I never knew existed, and sometimes just looking at record covers - I enjoyed every aspect of the record store 'shopping' experience. There's a certain indescribable feeling that I was always left with - feeling motivated and like the world was so full of possibility. I love Newbury Comics! I remember the first time I entered the flagship store in Boston - right away I was struck by the beautiful aroma - it was the smell of music, books, and the people that love them!”

and... record store day got a shout-out on snl's weekend update...

next april, make sure to get out and support the remaining record stores in your neighborhood.  it's important!

never looking down, just in awe of what's in front of me.

when i eeeped open one eye yesterday at 630 am and heard the drizzle of rain, i knew it would be a rough morning.  i peeled back my curtain and saw what i assumed (correctly i might add) was a cold, raw sunday morning i was tempted to stay in bed.  but i hopped up, put on my warmest gear and headed to copley square where i'd be running in the b.a.a. 5k.  i showed up, got my number and met up with my friends.  i must say, the course was pretty awesome.  i always thought i hated running outside but yesterday changed my mind.  we started out on boylston st by the library and looped past the park, the state house, comm ave and ended right where the marathon ends! pretty cool.

ok, so we warmed each other up and at 8 am, the race began!  we all started out together but lost each other quickly amidst the 5000 people. for this reason, i wasn't prepared with a 5k playlist since i thought we'd run and chat.  i had to make do...
this is what i listened to (in close to this order):

1. to kingdom come - passion pit
2. the reeling - passion pit
3. wheels - foofighters
4. til i collapse - eminem
5. walking on a dream - empire of the sun
6. always love - nada surf (while crossing the finish line!)

i did it! here's some more pretty, rainy images for your monday. iloveyou.
