girl crush friday: mindy kaling

the office has totally jumped the shark.  'jumped the shark' has also jumped the shark. don't you agree? but the only redeeming episodes are those written by mindy kaling, who also plays kelly kapoor.  her character is great but her writing is excellent.  it's usually quite clear which episodes she wrote.  niagara, classy christmas, secretary's day... 22 episodes in total and she recently started directing as well.  she's from cambridge and once wrote a play called "matt & ben" in which she played the role of ben affleck.  time magazine called it one of the "Top Ten Theatrical Events of the Year."  pretty great.

girl crush friday: isla fisher

i love isla fisher.  she's so cute, she's married to sacha baron cohen, and she's got a cool accent.  i bet they have a fun life.  one day i came home from work to find a package in my mailbox.  it was a dvd wrapped in brown paper.  the note said "i sent you this because i watched it last night and the redhead reminded me so much of you." it was a copy of definitely, maybe. how great are my friends? also, best compliment ever. not sure how accurate it is, but i'll take it!  



girl crush friday: marina & the diamonds

i was listening to pandora one day and instantly put down my dishes or pencil or book or whatever i was doing... to just listen.  i was hearing an acoustic version of the song hollywood by marina and the diamonds.  i was instantly obsessed and did that creepy thing where i listened to it overandoverandover (although i think part of me was just exacting pathetic revenge on my loud neighbor).  moving on-  real name: marina diamandis - marina and the diamonds refers to marina and her fans: the diamonds. 

i read this quote on wiki from marina:

i like it because it's a lonely feeling we all have - everyone is searching for their little niche in the world and i find it hopeful, that potential that it exists for us all.

susan sarandon rules.  apart from her extremely successful acting career, she's got a whole lot of other important stuff going on.  she's an activist for some very liberal causes:  anywhere from gay rights, to anti-war rallies, to hosting one part of live 8 in edinburgh.  and coolest of all?  she had her hand in the opening of SPiN NY -  she helped create SPiN - a table tennis/bar/eatery in the flatiron district of new york.  she seems like a pretty awesome lady. don't you agree?

it's bethany cosentino of best coast.  here's the thing. best coast is awesome, boyfriend is perhaps my favorite song in a while (i got a lotta favorite songs, ok?! jeesh)  and best of all, bethany has a cat called snacks.  she calls him her son, which is how i used to feel about my kitty.  (missin you cammie jean!) 

i'm huge on cool pet names.  next time i have an animal, much thought will go into its name which will be a minimum of 2 names.  my favorite celebrity pet name is rachel bilson's dog, thurman murman.  my old roommate's sister has a dog cally fluffy baggins, which is also great.  ok i'ma ramblin'.

girl crush friday: audrey tautou

last week on a precious, plans-free evening i settled in with a mug of tea and the most perfect movie of all time - amelie! if you haven't seen it - please see it! you will feel so good after it, the music is lovely, the characters are perfectly flawed.  and don't be an asshole and watch it dubbed in english.  the french language only makes it prettier. 

audrey tautou is a french actress.  she has said she wants to remain a french actress and not crossover to the US or ever live in la.  ah.  if only she had made that decision before starring in perhaps, one of the worst movies of all time: the davinci code.  bleck, what a piece of junk. 

she's also the face of chanel no.5.  inyaface nicole kidman!

one of my favorite bands, brand new, has a song called tautou in honor of miss audrey.

girl crush: waffles and falafels

babysitters club meets wu-tang.  it's been said and i agree! the waffles girls started a brand of t-shirts... they market themselves through facebook/twitter/myspace.  they're pretty much the coolest.  their tweets keep me giggling all through the work day... here's a sample.  i like how they just don't give a shit.

girl crush friday, sophie's choice: mary-kate olsen

how does one choose which olsen to prefer?  the answer is, it's not really a choice.   i've always just liked mary-kate better.  she always seems more unkempt than ashley, i absolutely loved her shade of red hair and general 'who cares' attitude.  i'd like to be a little more mary-kate in my life.
