drifting.

it's friday! hooray!  i'm slightly hungover today and craving a sleepy nap in my bed.  this weekend i plan on being very low key - reading in the park, apartment cleaning, sleeping in.
i was extremely lucky to get passion pit tickets for saturday night.  on monday they announced via twitter that they were playing a show at royale (formerly the roxy, which is a way less stupid name) in boston on saturday.  tickets went on sale wednesday at 5 and at 5:03pm, i was the lucky owner of 2  tickets!  what's even more amazing is, for reasons unknown to me, the tickets were free! P A R T Y.

nobody knows you the way you know you.

sometimes i live in my own little world. for the past week and a half i have been listening to passion pit almost exclusively during my commute to work. i was sheltered by a little passion pit induced bubble and it sort of felt as though they were serenading me and me alone and no one else knew about them. what i love most is  that their songs sound like i imagine a field of wildflowers would if they woke up one day and starting singing.

[has anyone else ever gotten that impression? imagine it for a second..]

today i decided to stop being a deadbeat in terms of this blog and i signed online and saw my co-conspirator  had just recently written about passion pit here. normally, i would be irked that here i had this great little post to write and the idea was taken already. but i think the passion pit almost-overdose left me enlightened. no matter how alone you may feel in the world, there is always someone out there sharing your same thoughts... you just need to find that person. so here's a special thanks, tara, for being out there and being you.

like stars burning holes right through the dark.

over the summer i began a love affair. with passion pit.  those nerdy dudes in the photo above.  i saw them play a show in government center. in august. outside. free. with beer and pizza and best friends. sounds pretty awesome, right?   the band was formed by michael angelakos who originally just wrote some songs as a gift for his then-girlfriend. he went on to perform them with his laptop at school and later formed the band.  their first album - manners - was released in may 2009. i bought the album. i love it. i love him. and i even got to meet him after a show in december:

being so into the album made me want to learn more about them.  there is a really, really fantastic interview with michael angelakos on boston.com - read it here.  it also led me to a really badass group of 5th graders from staten island: the ps22 chorus.  passion pit used these tiny kids with huge voices to sing on 3 tracks on their album. these kids rule. they've performed all over the place, even for barack at the white house. whoa.  look how rad they are:

their teacher, gregg breinberg selects 60-70 5th graders each year to be part of the chorus and teaches them lots of great, non-traditional songs and gets them involved with artists from all over like tori amos, rihanna stevie nicks and crowded house.  seems like a pretty amazing dude to me.

here's a quick video of the kids singing with passion pit's angelakos (falsetto me!, swoon...) on "sleepyhead":
