1.Kendinizi Tanıyın-Know Yourself

3. Liste Yapın-Make A List
Ne alacağımızı bilmediğimiz alışverişlerde saçma sapan parçaları alır nasıl giyeceğimizi bilemediğimiz için de dolabın derinliklerine göndeririz. Bunu önlemek için kendinize ihtiyaçlarınızı da göz önünde bulundurarak bir alışveriş listesi hazırlayın.
When we don't know what to buy then we buy things that we'll never wear and send them to the bottom of our closets. So go and ask yourself what you need and make your shopping list.

4.Sabırlı Olun-Be Patient
İlk girdiğimiz mağazada aradığımız her şeyi bulduğumuzu sanarız fakat aldığımız ceketin daha iyisini ve daha ucuzunu başka bir mağazada görmek pek hoşumuza gitmez. Bu yüzden ne kadar yorucu olduğu düşünülse de tüm mağazaları gezdikten sonra beğenilen parçaların alınması alınan ürünlerden memnuniyeti arttırır.
Don't think that you find all those things in your list in the fist shop you entered. Look all the shops to not to say you found the same skirt at a lower price.

5.Sezonluk Parçalara Dikkat!-Be Careful With One Season Pieces!
Ucuza bulduğumuzda normalde giymeyeceğimiz şeyleri bile aldığımız kuşkusuz bir gerçek. Mesela sırf yüksek bel moda diye moru sevmeyen birinin indirimden yüksek bel mor bir şort alması aslında çok sık yapılan bir hata. Sadece bir sezon giyebileceğiniz parçalardansa her zaman giyebileceğiniz siyah deri ceket, beyaz gömlek, kazak gibi parçalara yatırım yapmanızı öneririm. İndirim dışında bu parçalarınızı sezona uyumlu hale getirecek küçük parçaları H&M, Mango, Zara, Topshop gibi mağazalardan alabilirsiniz.
Don't buy a purple high-waisted short even if you hate purple when you see it on sale. Prefer the ones which you can always wear like leather jacket, white shirt, sweaters. You can modify them with new season's pieces and make them fashionable without spending a treasure.

stick it to me

since i'm not in a place to purchase art for the walls, lately i've been making my own.  last week i gathered some interesting branches/twigs on my walk home from work.  i pulled out all of my embroidery floss and while we watched survivor i wrapped the twigs and placed them in a colorful vase.  well, wouldn't you know that today as i was catching up on blog-reading i noticed some blog-love for free people's recent wall/store displays.  it's fabric wrapped branches! i love what free people does with their catalogs, web design and store displays and i am so happy to see i was on point.  i think i'm going to add to my own collection by painting some branches with my new acrylic paints.

i'm in a creative slump.  my blog posts have felt boring lately, i haven't made an aluminum robot in forever, and because it's not my house i'm living in... i haven't been able to do my favorite thing - which is house projects.  it's a likely story - i have an hour+ commute each way, then work, then when i get home i'd rather watch a movie or read a book and not drag out my box of ribbons, and strings, and paper, and cray-pas and magazine clippings.  this morning i rode the train with my brother and as we commented on the high amount of big white sneakers and angry looking commuters, i glanced out the window and saw a poster for this:

and there it was.  the dale chihuly exhibit at the MFA (museum of fine arts) in boston.  i always know when i'm going to love something - i get this anxious knot in my stomach, like if i don't get to it/see it/hear it/experience it soon, my head will explode.  and that is how i felt (and am feeling at this moment) when i saw this poster.  his work is beautiful, amazing, inspiring and i have to see it.  chihuly works in large-scale glass sculpture and uses the most gorgeous colors... to check out the artist at work, please take a peak at this video (set to passion pit!) watch it, you'll feel good.

my hope is to get there by next weekend.  wander around for a few hours.  feel real happy.

ever since i was in middle school, i've had a fascination with museums.  when i was tiny, it was the children's museum and the science museum, then in high school i would get dropped off at the braintree train station and head to the museum of fine arts where i always gravitated toward their contemporary art section.  since living in boston, i've gotten to all the museums here. my favorite of course is the MoCA in the berkshires but since it takes 3 hours to get there, i make it a point to get to every exhibit the ICA (institute of contemporary art) shows.  my most favorite exhibit i've seen there yet was the sculptures of anish kapoor.  kapoor is an indian-born, british sculptor whose work you will most certainly recognize... don't believe me?  look:

this sculpture is located in chicago... in millenium park and is called cloud gate.  i think we've all either taken our photo in this sculpture or know plenty of people who have.  you might also recognize this:

i love how he works so large scale and how many of his sculptures trick your eye.  here's a look at some of my favorite pieces as well as photos of the install.  lastly, you'll see a video of the ICA crew installing anish's "s-curve."  you will also see anish in the video.  pretty cool stuff!

when i was a little girl, i was given a copy of where the sidewalk ends by shel silverstein.  i loved that book fiercely and probably read it 1000 times.  i wish i knew where it went, i'm sure it was highlighted and had my little girl thoughts written on the pages.  i remember my mom hated when i read the giving tree because i would cry every time... but i loved it so much.  

one thing i love about silverstein is his insistence on using certain paper, ink, etc.  from wikipedia: "Silverstein believed that written works needed to be read on paper—the correct paper for the particular work. He usually would not allow his poems and stories to be published unless he could choose the type, size, shape, color and quality of the paper."  i seriously love this, because i get it.  presentation is so important.   his illustrations are perfection.

something i couldn't over look

today at lunch i was making a to do list (really, i was doodling robots) and a co-worker asked if i always used pencils.  truth is,  no not always, but i much prefer a pencil to a pen.  while i realize this isn't crucial info, don't you agree?  i like the little scratch scratch noise they make.  i like erasers.  i like everything about pencils over pens.  except those creepy mechanical pencils. 

anyways.  ever hear of dalton ghetti?  tons of stuff blows my mind, but today, these take the cake.  ghetti makes tenny tiny sculptures from the tips of pencils.  check em out below.  (sidenote: know what else is mind-blowing?  dalton ghetti has no wikipedia page.  weird.)

 listening to the xx, islands, while i type this.  i saw them play it live - it is such a beautiful song.  it's one of those songs i would play over and over again if i was alone.

banksy is a british graffiti/stencil street artist.  he's super famous but his identity is unknown.  there's a new documentary exit through the gift shop out now all about banksy and shepard fairey.  which is probably why it's more than just a coincidence he hit boston just a couple days ago.  last night after work, i went on a hunt for his work.  oh, and i found it!  i took a few photos, there were about 7-10 people there taking photos as well.

my brother dave is coming home this weekend! he lives in brooklyn and comes home once in a while to see friends and his seriously awesome family... since he missed mother's day last weekend, we're spending a day with mama and dad.  i'm meeting them at the institute of contemporary art then heading to a new restaurant called barlow for brunch.  i'm a member at the ica and not totally psyched by the current exhibit but it will be fun to bring them somewhere i really love... then drink loads of bloody mary's and eat scrambled eggs.

the ica also has another exhibit of dr. lakra's art.  it's all about tattoos... which i think will be fun and more literal, which for me translates to easier! hope the family has fun!

One of the original prints - in which Moss is invoked as a modern Marilyn, Andy Warhol-style - smashed its £20,000 to £30,000 guide price at Bonham's Urban Art auction in February, selling for £96,000.
