last night i joined my first book group. we have this great book shop in town called bear pond books. it's floor to ceiling covered in books with a creaky wooden floor and just an overall good feeling. plus, they have a sister store called rivendell across the street that specializes in used and old books. bear pond advertised a new book group so last night i headed down to check it out. i've always had this image of a bunch of weird, interesting people gathered around a table talking about great literature. well, i got what i paid for. i walked in just at 7 and saw that i was the youngest member of said book group by about 35 years. but hey, why not? so i settled in, introduced myself and listened as each person stated their intentions and hopes for the group. 
but what i really wanted was to get to the book nominations. we had about 20 minutes to wander the store and come back with a book or two. i nominated the amazing adventures of kavalier and clay. please read it! my book didn't win but it came close. our first book is the lonely polygamist - which is a novel about mormonism. i think it sounds pretty great. i also found out there is a mystery book club which sounds pretty awesome too.
