super sleuth

i started thinking about z's birthday about a month ago.  i knew i wanted to plan something silly and something he would love.   he loves mysteries and clues and figuring things out so i finally settled on the idea of a montpelier-wide scavenger hunt. since planning is a strength of mine, i felt (somewhat) confident it would go smoothly.

on sunday morning i made up an excuse and left the house.  once i was a safe distance away, i texted zach that i needed some info off my computer and asked if he could retrieve it for me.  on my computer, i had left a message telling him that it was an important day filled with treasure hunting and code deciphering and to proceed to our desk for his first clue...

Where.... there was a mini bottle of champagne, oj, a detective kit, and his first clue.  The rest of the day had him deciphering codes, decoding riddles, searching for hidden clues and getting a birthday gift at each stop.  I was so nervously excited that i spied on zach a few times then headed to the last stop (three penny taproom) to wait with his last two gifts and a delicious lunch.

he loved it, i loved doing it; the day was a complete and total success which we ended with berry pie, playing carcassonne and watching the movie sunshine.
