color my world with trouble and chaos. or not.

i have been having a secret love affair with colors these days. i say secret because to look at me you wouldn't know it. i did a load of laundry the other day and it was a pile of black and grey and dark purple. it made me sad. and i looked out the window at the rain and i felt even sadder. but this image fortunately cheered me up. who doesn't love an umbrella-protected street?

moving on, one of my favorite shows on tv is glee because it is amazing. it's high school musical sans disney magic which means all the music and dancing you love plus teen pregnancy, awesome one liners and a quirky cast of characters. the part i love best is the colorful clothing. gosh, if i had another life i'd come back as a costume designer for a television show. i like to dream big.

my favorite character in terms of clothing selection is emma pillsbury, the neurotic guidance counselor.

as i've been filling up my virtual shopping cart with clothes i have no plan on purchasing, i've been channeling emma's style which consists of bright colors, mary janes, and ruffly details on classic items. here are the things i covet (all taken from modcloth.com):

Unfortunately for you.... my list of who these items are by and links have gone missing.  I know, I am the worst. But, if you go onto modcloth.com you will probably find them and even more amazing picks.

using your headphones to drown out your mind.

happy saturday!  it's snowy and pretty here in boston.  i spent my day volunteering at the ICA and then on the hunt for new headphones.  last weekend i got my tragus pierced... making it impossible to get ear buds in there.

i found this as more of a blessing since i have had my eye on new headphones for a long time. let's check 'em out"

first pair: WeSC macara headphones (the tan is so perfect)
second pair: WeSC bongo headphones
third pair: WeSC oboe headphones (those are my first choise - isn't that bermuda green the loveliest?)

my sad wallet situation left me wanting the WeSC's but buying some sony's.
i still got my eye on you ;)

girl crush: friday. the leigh lezark edition.

i have a tendancy to creep around on fashion and music blogs.  it was on one such blog i kept seeing the same, hot girl.  it's leigh lezark.  she's a model and one third of the misshapes - a nyc dj threesome. yipes. she's so pretty.  i would love to exchange faces with her. so in 2003 the three (leigh, Geordon Nicol, Greg Krelenstein) started a weekly dance party in the west village called "misshapes." it carried on for 4 years - check out some photos on their website http://www.misshapes.com/ - they're no longer hosting a weekly party but they do still dj all over. this is leigh here on the right, with model agyness deyn.

the misshapes:

looking back at last friday's girl crush, i'm starting to think i have a type. do you blame me?!

random bits.

sorry i missed you yesterday! i spent the frist 5 hours of my day holed up in a dingy room in the dorchester courthouse.  what? I didn't tell you guys? i shanked a guy in '92 and they finally caught me.  bummer.

i just want to update you on what's coming... i don't want this blog to ever have rules or uniform but one thing i've decided to impose is - girl crush: friday. i started last friday with lights (how hot is she?) and i've already got someone perfect lined up for tomorrow.  boyz - get excited, girlz - get inspired!

ok one last thing... check out this really quick youtube below... it's of a couple who have been married 62 years.  they headed into the mayo clinic, saw the piano and did work!  love love love.  it's real! don't be afraid! be yourself.  and you'll find the person who will still pat your bumbum when you're 90.
don't stop smiling for your whole life.

the fourth drink instinct is taking over.

on sunday, i spent an epic day with my bestest friends.  the days events included, but were certainly not limited to: bbq at soul fire (i had pulled pork - yum!), lots of beers while a friend recorded his podacst (check it our here), a new piercing, followed by many, many drinks at deep ellum.  while at deep ellum, i was in cocktail confusion - the menu was filled with drinks i'd never had.  i started easy with a dark & stormy... but soon i was coerced into trying my first ever mint julep.  they even served it in the traditional pewter glass:

thing is, i thought it tasted like a dirt sandwich.  later, i told someone i had tried my first ever mint julep and his response was something like "yum, those are really good during the kentucky derby." this got me thinking how certain drinks really do taste better at certain times/at certain events.

like champage on nye:

or bloody mary's in the morning. i totally love bloody mary's with my delicious hungover brunch but i have trouble drinking them at any other time... (refer to nighttime bloody mary drinking vomiting incident of '08).

(tremont 647 bloody mary. salt & pepper rim!)

Then there's the pumpkin and cranberrydrinks in the fall; eggnog, peppermint, gingerbread, cider cocktails at christmastime.  there's hurricanes and caipirnihas at mardi gras. palomas and margaritas for cinco de mayo:

and who doesn't love the summer: frozen drinks, scorpion bowls, sangria, and frosty beers at outdoor shows!

let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress: adventure.

my partner-in-blog and i have lots and lots of shared interests. i love jenn because we can talk about nerdy stuff and giggle about it for hours while sitting in panera bread drinking green tea and doodling on recycled napkins.  but, we're not simply talkers - we're doers! we don't just talk nerd, we attend nerdy events! WIZARD ROCK!

for 2 years running, jenn and i have attended the yule ball at the middle east in cambridge. and yes, it's as awesome as it sounds.  the headlining band are 2 dudes called harry and the potters.  they sing about... you guessed it - harry potter! and voldemort, ron weasley, hermione, viktor krum - all of them and they do it in a really clever, silly way. the show happens every december, at christmas time.  this year the other acts included:

Draco and the Malfoys
the Whomping Willows
MC Kreacher

and guess what else? they serve harry potter themed drinks - my favorite is butterbeer; here's the recipe, and also what i look like after too many butterbeers!

2 ounces vodka
1 ounce butterscotch schnappes
6 ounces cream soda

year one:

and year two:

here's some sample lyrics from "my wizard scar still burns for you."

oh ginny weasley
you're so dreamy
ginny weasley
ron's gonna kill me
so you know that voldemort is
trying to kill me
and i don't want you caught in between
like sirius black
i don't want to lose you
so i can't see you
i don't want to lose you
so you know i can't see you
...but my wizard scar still burns for you...

i'd do it if i could, i hope you know i would.

yesterday we talked about beards.  today, we talk shakespeare which will then lead to buffalo tom.  if you already get the connection, well then, i adore you.

my most favorite of shakespeare's works is sonnet 130.  it's short. and not sweet.  yet it is the loveliet thing i've ever heard.

SONNET 130
My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damask'd, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground:
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.

i will not analyze it - i'm leaving that up to jordan catalano and brian krakow:
"What kind of girl is Shakespeare describing? Is she the most beautiful girl?" mr. katimski asks the class.
Brian: "No,"
teacher: "Is she a goddess? Physically perfect? The kind of girl who stops traffic when she walks down the street?"
Brian: "No."
teacher: "So he's not in love with her?"
jordan: "Yeah. He is."
teacher: "And why is that? Why is he in love with her? What is it? What is it about her?"
jordan opens his mouth, but it is brian who speaks: "She's not just a fantasy. She's got like, flaws. She's real."

aww! so sweet, right?  it makes me want to sneak off to the boiler room with my own long-haired (blonde) boy.
and the overwhelming theme song, repeatedly played during this episode of my so-called life:
buffalo tom, 'late at night'  and i can assure you, i bought every single buffalo tom album when i was 13 years old, but i played 'late at night' over and over and over in my bedroom.
 it's too bad jared leto has turned into such a douche.

below is 'late at night'
